Bullying School assemblies Program Jeff Winston and the development
For 6 years I worked with Dennis Langlais the owner of Perfection on Wheels in developing a exciting, educational, school assembly program.
As a professional BMX stunt rider I worked in junction with Perfection on Wheels BMX Stunt Team developing a Bullying School assemblies program that consisted of 2 riders educating students in the areas of bicycle safety, drug awareness and healthly choices. These assemblies were designed to work with themes as Red Ribbon Week, Bicycle Safety Month, and a variety School Bullying Programs. The company's goal was to grab the attention of the students, and act as positive role models and relay the important messages on these themes.
I played a big role in performing as well as the production of a Bullying School assemblies assembly video that is now hosted on You tube. I was in charge of :
- Writing the script.
- Editing and directing.
- Performing as a rider/speaker in the video.
In one of ourur Red Ribbon Week assemblies in San Diego, CA. I had the privilege of meeting Enrique Kiki Camarena's Son. The program continues to be a big success in 2010 and for years to come!
The program reaches out to 700 schools each year, and has had a great impact on students in positive ways. If you want to find me in the video i am the one quoting:
Part of being on our team is
"understanding the responsibility of being a role model. During all of our shows we talk to students about living a healthly drug free lifestyle, following our dreams, students definitely connect with us better than other programs because they see we are living our dreams."See a show live![]()
Communication skills:
I addressed the students with message themes such as bicycle safety, Red Ribbon Week, and bullying school assemblies. My goal was to gather their attention and get them to understand and listen to the message. I learned to read my audience and speak according to the mood. I really feel this experience is something that will help me in many careers to come.
Time management:
Traveling to and from the school assembly programs was a difficult task, managing time to and from the schools along with traffic, and time zones, is a skill in itself. Especially in states like California and New York.
In conclusion I want to thank Perfection on Wheels BMX Stunt Team and the BMX Pros BMX Trick Team for the professional stunt riders for the opportunity to work with them, I am now employed full time at University of Connecticut working with students as a counselor.
